Hi, my name is Liam Reid, I’m a 22 year old athlete, coach, gamer and overall enthusiast of everything. I started playing sport at the 9 where I played rugby and did athletics, 10 years old I played rugby and cricket and athletics, and 11 years old was the age that I picked up a basketball for the first time as well as a hockey stick but since you’re reading this I think you can tell which one I prefered. My whole life I’ve been very much into sports and outdoor activities and when I got the opportunity to play at DHS I kinda let basketball run away with my life, it consumed me and everything around me. At the junior u13 level I was never really competitive with it but through high school it grew on me more and more and we beat teams by 50+ (that’s at an u14 level). From u15 and onwards other teams got a little bit more competitive and we were only beating teams by 30 or so... however the highlight of my school basketball career was my matric year.
Winning St Johns and the Kwa Zulu Marlins frenzy tournament 1 week apart, and then a few weeks later winning our own Easter tournament was my most successful run yet... but it wasn’t done, later that year I managed to win Salga games for the second year in a row and again a week later managed to win the local EBA tournament in Umlazi with APN.
Post Matric I’ve won The Sasol u19 tournament, Salga games (3peat) and the BNL in 2018, while also playing for the KZN Impi at the Ashraff tournament in 2017 and 2018.
As much as I’ve done the last few years I don’t plan on stopping any time soon, be it basketball, rugby ultimate Frisbee or where ever my path may lead.
There’s a summary of my Basketball/ athletic background, let me know in the forum section who you’d like a write up on next.
