Faith like potatoes

My journey of faith and religion has been one of great uncertainty. I consider myself to be someone with a realistic view of the world but this could also just be a bit of pessimism. I’ve always known of God and known he’s always been there but never actually taken a committed step to accepting him. Religion was never forced on me growing up but I’ve always had that religious “magnet” around me where I’ve been able to find God in whatever I do. But it wasn’t until last year that I fully accepted him into my life.
If I have to give a solid answer as to where I first got a hint of the power of God, I’ll say it is probably when I first watched the movie “Faith Like Potatoes” based on the book by Angus Buchan, I wont get into the details but it’s one of my all time favourite movies and opened the door to let me find the big man up stairs.
Through high school I started get closer and closer to God and he got me through a lot of personal struggles of depression, anxiety, break ups, being far from home and some other personal struggles. Whenever I was down or at a low point I would pray, and pray hard! But one thing I learnt through SCA (student Christian association) was that you can’t just pray and wait for something to happen, you have to get up and go get it. Problems won’t fix themselves no matter how much you pray. To me it was something I could turn to without hesitation, something I could rely on to give me hope through the dark times and be grateful for during the best times.
A lot of debate around religion is whether God actually exists and I will tell you time and time again, I am a living example of him. But you have never seen him so how can you believe in something which you have never even seen? Its simple. A farmer doesn’t see his potatoes growing but he knows when to harvest them. He knows exactly when to pull them out the ground. Faith is like this. You just have to believe and trust that God will provide for you.
I understand that Religion is considered a sensitive or dare I say “taboo” topic in society but when you truly experience that moment when he speaks to you and you experience the revolutionary change he makes in your life you will look back and be grateful.
That’s all for now, feel free to get in touch and let me know what you think.
