The weekend feature article this week is another one dedicated to the women. Takalani Mfamadi is without a doubt one of the most feared ladies in women’s Basketball. As a proud player for the national team and a regular attendee to the school of hard knocks (you’ll find out why I say so later), Takalani gives 110% on the court and never backs down from a challenge.
I got in touch with her to find out about her service for the National team:
Full name
Takalani Mfamadi
Birthday
26 October
Years played on national team
Since 2007 so about 8 years
Games played on national team
Geez too many to count but a whole lot lol
Best player you’ve played against at national level
There was a lady in the Mozambique National team that we nicknamed Caster. She was very tall and very fast. I think she almost dunked on me at the 2011 qualifiers haha but I can’t remember her real name.
Your favourite/standout game at national level
I think it has to be the last game we played against Zimbabwe in 2015. They had to beat us by 5 or more points and if they didn’t then we would qualify for the 2015 AfroBasket. We played our hearts out and won. I got a beating (including a slap that almost the whole arena heard) but it was all worth it. That win took all the body aches away. (Note the school of hard knocks)
A favourite story from national team
Qualifying for my first AfroBasket. I remember the speech we got from one of the people from BSA before the qualifiers. He told the ladies that we needed to try and qualify and that the men have to qualify coz they had BNL. Long story short we didn’t try to qualify- we actually did and as for the men, let’s just say they didn’t do so well.
A message to the kids
Basketball is beautiful. Make sure you fall in love with every game you play. Give it your all and leave it all on that court. Basketball is love and will always BE!!!
